Coaches and professors hold more of a higher expectation when it comes to athletes. It is important for an athlete to be phenomenal both in their academics and sport, because without either, they would be unable to stay in school if they fail all of their courses or fail to perform with in their sporting field. There is a strong possibility that they can also an athlete can get cut from their team. There is a reason why athletes are so motivated than non-athletes to excel in their academics. John C. Phillips and Walter E. Schafer, mentions within there research that there is convincing evidence to signify that more athletes strive to be successful in attending colleges than non-athletes. “Bend found that 81.8% of his sample of superior athletes compared to 56.1% of the non-athletes aspired to at least some college education” (Phillips, & Schafer, 1971). Most athletes gain their hunger for sports, because other than paying for their tuition out of pocket they have the opportunity to have their tuition, room and board paid for all 4 years of their sporting career, and in return they just have to be phenomenal in their sport and academics. Student-athletes sometime experience role strain because of the competing time and energy demands of the athletic, social, and academic roles. But athletic, social, and academic roles can be expanded or contracted depending upon the degree of commitment to a given role (William J. Goode, 1960, 483). College experience supposes to be one of the greatest experiences. It’s a place where you meet and greet different people of different state and countries and sometimes that opportunity is deprive because the school system, design things in a way where athletes and non- athletes are so caught up in their school and their sport schedule that socializing is a task. Abilene Christian University needs to find a better way to help students socialize and learn about each other and their different background. There were times I came across student talking about never seeing someone around campus. That just goes to show how the roles and schedules have taken over the lives of athletes and
