In fact, Jesus is the embodiment of spirituality, that is, Jesus is God's standard and measurement for spirituality. It is His life and ministry that God uses to measure spirituality. To understand what is meant by Jesus being God's standard for spirituality is to ask: how did Jesus obey, talk, work, eat, pray, fast, and so on. It is also to find out how He handled friends, enemies, elders, juniors, followers, critics, praise-singers, and others. The way He did any of these things becomes the yardstick for us. We can say that Jesus is God's encyclopaedia for spirituality. Consider how Jesus did nothing until He confirmed the will of His father per time. That is why He could say, "My Father worketh hitherto, and I work" (John 5:17), "The Son can do nothing of himself, but what he seeth the Father do: for what things soever he doeth, these also doeth the Son likewise" (John 5:19), and "I can of mine own self do nothing: as I hear, I judge: and my judgment is just; because I seek not mine own will, but the will of the Father which hath sent me" (John 5:30).
