Classroom Field Observation

The structure of a teacher’s classroom is crucial to determining the type of learning environment that the teacher wants to have. For my students’ desks, my preference is rows and columns. The reason that I choose rows and columns is that I have seen clusters in action during my filed experience during this semester. The students in my field placement are unfortunately off task more often than not, because they are in groups the entire time that they are in school, causing more disruptions in the classroom. With rows and columns on the other hand, allow the students to have their each individual spaces in the classroom, and allows for less disruptions during teaching and learning time. I do however, understand the need for the student-student …show more content…
In my current field placement, my mentor teacher doesn’t have a teacher’s desk, and while it does allow for less clutter in her classroom, it doesn’t give her, her own individual space in the classroom to allow her to get the things she needs to get done before, during and after the school day. For me, I would personally like to have a teacher’s desk somewhere in my classroom. I would place it in a corner, so that it is not taking up any space that my students may need. I would make sure that my desk is visible to all students and that all students are visible to me and that it is easily accessible to them and to me. Hopefully though while I am going through the motions of the school day, I won’t be at my desk, so that while I am teaching that I am in front of the students, and even if I am not teaching, I am monitoring my students by walking around the classroom to help them if needed. The only times that I believe that I will actually use my desk, is for conferences, or to get things situated before or after class …show more content…
The first would be at the back table to conduct smaller lessons, for students who are having trouble with the materials. The second place that I would place them is for them to walk around alongside me and help out students who need help during classwork time. This will allow more students’ needs to be met at a quicker rate. Teacher’s aids/teacher’s assistants will also be valuable to use when learning centers are in play during a lesson, because they can be in charge of certain centers that may need extra explanation of what is required of the students at that

The main focus of APS 8 is to create and maintain an environment in which the students feel safe and are encouraged and supported to learn. The classroom environment should demonstrate this atmosphere both physically and affectively. The classroom diagram used as the artifact directly relates to APS 8 by supporting cooperative learning, exemplifying a safe and well managed physical environment, and displaying an environment that makes every student feel important. First, the diagram demonstrates that the classroom is student-centered since the desks are arranged in groups of four students as opposed to straight rows.…

While observing in Beth Johnston’s First Grade classroom at Eugene Field Elementary School, I have noticed some effective and ineffective classroom management practices that she uses while I have been in the classroom. One effective classroom management technique that I have observed is that Mrs. Johnston puts her student’s desks into groups of three or four. This is an effective technique because she puts her strong students with her not as strong students, which can help with the students who might need a little help staying on track with the lesson that they are supposed to get done. Also, Mrs. Johnston has changed the groups a couple of times since I have been observing in the classroom. This I believe is effective because the students…

In the classroom at Denton City County Day school that I observed in, there is a wall that has the days of the week, a calendar with the current month and shapes drawn out and spelled out. All of these things are in big letters where the children can easily see them. The classroom teachers are providing a word wall that is enhancing their literacy abilities. According to Isenberg and Durham (2015), a word wall displays frequently used words related to a topic of study or has a meaning full purpose and contains either new or familiar words for the children to use. The word wall provides the children with a literacy-rich environment because it is used and taught to them daily.…

From my time in ELED class, and observing in an actual classroom, I have learned much more about education than I previously knew. This semester has changed the way I think about education going into the future. Classroom layouts have changed, as well as the way teachers, students, and parents interact with each other. The behavior of students in 2016 is also different than it has been in the previous years. There are many more diverse classrooms with students who have different learning capabilities, and cultures.…

On my first day of observing Mrs. Albita’s 4th grade classroom, I first noticed how she selected the student that would write the objective for the day. In Mrs. Zatt’s third grade classroom, organization is vital to the students, and utilized in such a way that every student receives equal and quality learning opportunities. While there are no physically disabled students in the current third grade class, safety and accessibility is still factored into the arrangement of the classroom. Classroom 22 is located across the blacktop, not in one of the main buildings, but in a small portable; it is wheelchair accessible with a ramp leading into the classroom. The desks are grouped into five tables of four to six students, with the teacher's desk in back, and a U-shaped side table (for one on one student/teacher interactions) to the side of the whiteboard. The desk groups are all about three feet…

Every Monday and Wednesday, my afternoons are spent on the 900 block of West Union Blvd in West Bethlehem, PA. However, to be more specific the location of my field experience is Nitschmann Middle School. The school is located in the westside of the city of Bethlehem which tends to be a little more suburban in comparison to the rest of the Bethlehem Area School District. Certainly, after school there are some students that do not travel far to get to school, some houses are seconds away from the school. Before arriving at Nitschmann Middle School I already had some preconceived notions about the school.…

Desk Assist Inc. Problem: Everyday students attend educational intuitions to advance their knowledge, and they all/most face a similar problem that nearly every student will agree with—not enough desk space. Most of the time, students are forced to choose between either taking notes on a computer which takes up the entire desk, or taking notes by hand in a binder which takes up the entire desk. Notes by computer aren’t necessarily always the most efficient way to take notes, and the same applies to hand written notes. Occasionally, you will have students who will attempt a balancing act by putting their computer on their binder, so they can take both handwritten and computer notes, but this takes away all available space, and they have to…
