The one thing that can make a person’s instincts drive them to do what they like to be in control of others to limit their freedom because people can be unpredictable. Society probably fears what they cannot control because they think their safety could be in jeopardy or they just do not want to lose the power they have, so they try to stay away from change. In the book Anthem, by Ayn Rand, in Chapters 1 and 5-6,Equality 7-2521, the main character, loved science and in the Home of scholars that is what they focused on. They made many modern inventions that people use in their everyday lives. Equality 7-2521 had figured out how to make a light bulb work on his own, in a society where everyone works together when they do things, but it was turned down because a group did not help make it. Another example is in the 1700s when the southern states of the U.S. were against abolishing slavery because they did not think that blacks and whites should be equal and/or they were afraid that once the blacks were free from slavery, they would try to take things away from whites, seek revenge, and/or just because they did not want to face the truth of white people not being superior to everyone
