Templin and Richards (2014) demonstrate a rich rigor considering for what the research is worth. The objective of Templin and Richard was to conduct an intergenerational analysis using the occupational socialization approach. An intergenerational study is an interaction between individuals of different generations. Throughout the research, Templin provides his twentieth-century account and Richards gives his twenty-first-century encounter of physical education. Furthermore, they both use the occupational socialization theory to articulate their experiences. The objective of the article was to utilize purposeful sampling, and address implications for future research. Templin and Richards (2014) state, “of course, this dichotomy is not so clear concerning the dynamics of the socialization process; ultimately, this interaction dictates what may occur in one’s experience (p.441)”. For example, Templin and Richards state that evidence indicates that attrition rates are relatively high among teachers, with as many as 50% of beginning teachers leaving the profession within their first five years of teaching (Smith & Ingersoll 2004; Richards & Templin, 2014 p. 438). The field of physical education is waning due to the amount of quality teacher’s furthermore the Society of Health, and Physical Educators (SHAPE) reveal that most state physical education programs do not receive federal subsidies. The leading cause of death in America is heart disease (CDC) which is a preventable disease, however, many states to prioritize physical education a core subject in the curriculum.
