Gonzaga Social Issues

Through this class I have learned so much more than excepted not only about the world but about my thoughts as well. I have come to develop my own ways of thinking. Before taking this class I would commonly just listen to the media and take their side on everything. Now I have learned to look at issues from my own perspective. This means conducting my own research and developing my own thoughts on the matter. Along with learning this I have grown extensive knowledge of social issues that I can now us to help others. In our class final project, we want to help students on campus learn more about sexual assault. To help affect this I have decided to help by developing a website. Students here at Gonzaga should feel safe where ever they go without ever having to worry about these issues. This project will also show my intellectual goal of helping others form their own opinions. On this website I will simply offer facts that are 100% true. Nowhere will I put my own personal opinions. I will do this because I believe that people need to develop their own thoughts on social issues. When developing your own thoughts on a subject you are also more likely to get involved and help create a positive change for this world. A great example of this is the idea of race. Most people think of race as clean cut categories of people. However, in the video “The Difference Between Us” you see that race is much more complicated with tons of people fitting in not one specific race. Most people however never look into social sciences like these so you see more stereotyping and wrongful treatment. Finally, this reflects my religious goals of Christianity.
