The Importance Of Social Responsibility In Society

In society today, most Americans generally only act according to their own accord and for their personal benefit. While this idea does not apply to all, as there is a large group of Americans who do act for the common good of their community, people in society today are self-centered in their approach to their social responsibility in their community. A socially responsible member of American society can be defined in their civic duties, such as obeying laws and paying taxes, and through their actions towards the common good. Social responsibilities use the actions of individuals to promote change within their communities and society.
The civic responsibilities of an individual allow them to help their community through a series of acts that uphold the democratic values of our society. These actions help to promote beneficial values in an individual like self-restraint, self-respect, and just generally caring for others in the community (Self). Being a leader allows an individual to demonstrate the power that one voice has on society as well as allowing someone to change the world for the better (Greczyn). The voice of the individual can be aided by technology in the modern age such as social media and easy accessibility to the internet. Social media allows someone to project their thoughts, ideas, and beliefs over a variety of platforms while reaching a seemingly endless amount of people (“Responsible Use of Social Media”). This allows the sharing of ideas to spread more rapidly and for change across multiple different aspects of society to be achieved or exposed.
