"It takes a village to raise a child."-African Proverb. This wasn 't only a quote, but a way of life back in the day! The whole community enforced discipline and guidance as playing a hand in raising each others children. Their was a mutual respect for families and the community really looked out for each other furthermore putting the needs of the children first. The men looked out for young boys and women young girls. As a collective young girls and boys were taught to respect their elders, don 't talk back, excuse yourself while adults are talking, hold the door open for others, do as you 're told with no questions or back talk and say yes not what, please and thank you just to name a few. Many would question how social media has influenced manners but it 's safe to say that social media had broken the moral compos. People will do anything for likes or recognition. There are several videos circulating the internet of young children and adults disrespecting one another but even more shockingly their elders. We have reached times where it 's all about if you don 't feel respected by that person it 's socially accepted to disrespect them no matter who they are. Of course you have the few people who do have manners and understand the severity of respecting our elders and neighbors but the worse the video the more attention they get. In this day and age it 's easier to act a fool then it is to have manners specifically when you have no one to set the example for you. When will they find manners and put them to use in society? If you are not taught something then how will you know you are capable, does it just start working out of the blue one day? Manners are essential because they tie into the type of person you are and how you want the world to preserve you. When I was younger and had to follow a whole scroll of manners I hated it and seen no need for it. Now that I am 19 going on 20 years old I thank my family for pushing those rules on me so hard, I came out to be an OK person! But I 'm just one of many and as a community it 's time to stand up and redirect the youth of today in a better direction.
