Communication is a vital necessity in establishing, maintaining and strengthening interpersonal relationships. Technology has brought the world of communication from composing a letter to be conveyed via the horseback mail transporter of the 1800 Pony Express to every individual’s fingertips via smart devices and social media platforms. Within today’s milieu, we can send communications from any location instantly to anyone, anywhere, thus empowering relationships to be decidedly affected. This debate will present a logical argument to support one side of that issue, assess objections from the contradicting party while upholding the perspective that social media augment interpersonal relationships.
The argument focal point of this thesis is:
P1: Interpersonal relationships involve communication between individuals.
P2: Social media grants individuals to communicate.
P3: Not all people live in the same geographic area.
P4: Social media allows communication across geographical locations.

One protest is that social media empowers dishonesty in communication. This protestation is a noteworthy objection because betrayal sabotages the trust required for interpersonal relationships. The characterization of deception is the “deliberate act intended to mislead others, while targets are not aware or do not expect such acts might happen and where the deceiver aims to exchange a false conviction to the deceived” (Tsikerdekis & Zeadally, 2014, p. 72). If the purpose of any communication is deception, then the question of how robust the relationship indeed is, could likewise be answered. If one individual of the rapport is eager to or senses the need to deceive then the connection, itself would only be damaged further by any communication
