I mainly collected information from the neighborhood association director, along with a couple associates from the Walgreens in my neighborhood’s area. As a refection upon myself, I would say this suggests that I am mainly concerned with going to the person who oversees the neighborhood, and would be assumed to have the most information regarding all aspects of the community. Therefore, social control within this community, would be my main concern. Understanding the rules within the neighborhood is a direct reflection upon the systems set up for those individuals in the neighborhood, and what they feel is important. This then would say about myself that I tended to focus on the wellbeing of the neighbored and how that is exactly defined for this community.
How can the information you gathered inform future work with this population and community?
Reflecting upon the information gathered about the South East End, gave light to the issues of housing, education, and job opportunities. The first step in dealing with a social problem is identifying the issue itself. When we did our interview with the director, she mentioned several programs working on various things within the community, however I felt I did not pay enough attention to see if these motions are being done. Also, I feel it would be important to focus more on the spirituality and religious values of the community. These ideals influence greatly on the feeling of the community and give more understanding to other facets within the community as well. All in all, getting a greater sense of neighborhood community
