A pre smartphone world would be a tough one to live in for this generation. There isn’t really much thought put into how much our phones have and continue to aid in everyday life. Smart phones are a technology that are still relatively new and always changing. It isn’t a hard task to find someone who can speak about what life was like before this innovative technology. Take for instance, the 1970’s, the era of the bell-bottoms; sending a text message on a cell phone was completely unheard of. The convenience of smart phones is taken for granted every day. Smart phones continue to make life easier time and time again. Talking to a friend hasn’t always been as simple as whipping out a phone and hitting send. Now we can take out our smartphone and call anyone anywhere, with the touch of a button, without being anywhere near a landline. Returning a missed call is as simple as hitting ‘call back’ and being instantly connected, none of the hassle of hoping the caller left their information. Writing a letter has become almost extinct. Now delivering a message is as simple as typing out the thoughts and pressing send. The message is delivered in seconds, rather than days. This method is unarguably much more efficient than sending a letter and waiting days for a reply (Higgins). Obviously, face to face conversations are still a practiced social activity; however, the introduction of video-chatting made it easier to have a ‘face to face’ conversation without being in another persons’ physical presence. Now, all it takes to see someone in person is a click of a few buttons, and instantly their face is displayed on the phone in real time. While communication methods of the 1970’s seemed revolutionary at the time, the introduction of the smart phone into society made it much easier and more efficient to communicate with one another (“Mobile Phones and …show more content…
Almost any question can be answered within a matter of seconds, with only the type of a finger and the press of a button. The power of the search engine, along with online encyclopedias and other reference materials put the knowledge of the whole world into a device small enough to fit into a pocket. Typing an essay has also become much easier. All that’s needed is an application to format your ideas on and fingers to type with. The phone will even check the grammar and spelling, leaving the author to focus on typing rather than stopping and correcting every mistake
