The Importance Of Sleep For Homeless People

Decent Essays
Finding a place to sleep is hard for the homeless people in San Francisco as the Super Bowl is closing in. The homeless are being awakened from their sleep to get up and find a new place to sleep. Many theory’s think that they are moving homeless out of the area because of how close the superbowl is. They even built a homeless shelter housing up to 1100 people. I think that what they are doing is the right thing to do because they are building them a place to stay. I also agree with moving them out of the stadium are because they want to make their city look good for tourists coming from all over the world. So I don’t think they would want homeless people walking all over the Bay Area when there are thousands of tourists there to see the game.

The rise in the number of permanent supportive housing slots only went up 3.4% in the last year while transitional housing beds rose only 2.4% and we saw a measly 2.2% rise in emergency shelter beds. Why is it that the city isn’t taking the necessary actions to make sure its citizens have a place to sleep at night? It can be argued that by simply handing out food and shelter, we are enabling the homeless. It has been said that people will only continue to beg for money and avoid having to work so long as they don’t have to. If provided a place to sleep, something to eat and proper health care these people will have a much better chance at pulling themselves out of the hole they are currently living in.…
