Sixth grade for was one of my most difficult years of my life so far for a few reasons. First off, sixth grade was my first year of middle school, meaning a whole new school, new school system with class schedules, lockers, multiple teachers, and having passing periods were all new concepts for me to grasp as a kid. More importantly however, the second reason sixth grade was so difficult for me was that over the summer leading to that school year, me and my family left the Catholic church that my mom’s family had been going to for about a hundred years or so, and it was a completely different environment for our entire family because we spent the entire summer up to the first week of school looking for a new church in our area, going to a new …show more content…
For me, my entire week reflected around Genesis, my church’s middle school ministry, which for me was my safe haven away from everything that was happening at school. I knew that this was the one place on earth that I was completely safe from any physical harm because I knew that not many people from my school went to Genesis and I knew that the pastor had his watchful and protective eye over me, because although I didn’t tell him about the bullying until I was in high school, he knew from other parents and from other students what I was going through and he became my guardian angel of sorts and made sure that I felt welcomed in the church as he helped me work through my depression and suicidal thoughts that I had during my 8th grade year. He personally plugged me into the youth band when I was in sixth grade and I played lead guitar for all three years and through this, I was able to experience for the first time what community felt like as the youth band became my second
