Many people also take advantage of online coupons because they are easier to sort through and can be printed out if they do not receive a newspaper or coupons in the mail. The increase use of coupons can be associated with a weak economy in that people will rely more on discounted products and shop at stores that offer them (Tanner & Raymond, 2010). A typical example of coupons is those put out by pizza places offering buy one get one free deals. The use of coupons in the United States is successful because the population’s ability to use technology to gain access and the vastly connected road system used by postal services to deliver. Many developing countries are lacking the basic infrastructure to even support postal deliveries (Postal system, 2016). This type of sales promotion uses a tool called loyalty programs that “reward the frequent purchase and consumption of an offering” (Tanner & Raymond, 2010, pg. 244). Loyalty programs exist in all sorts of markets including fast food, coffee, airlines and hotels, sporting goods, fashion, you name it, it likely exists (Mizerak, 2016). Many companies chose to use these programs because they result in repeat business, and serve as a marketing platform by offering rewards for referrals (Mizerak, 2016). The infrastructure for loyalty programs to be successful is a bit more complex than point of purchase sales or coupons. These programs have many reasons for failure including lack of research into market consumers, cannot keep up with the influx of competition, being impatient, program is too complex for consumers to easily joint, etc. (Gamble, 2013). That being said, the United States offers a great platform for the use of such programs because of a large population that consistently overconsumes, has the means to access these stores either physically or online, and has a population of people that are always on the go and looking for the next greatest deal on to quench their never ending thirst for more. Countries that do not have such a thriving economy would be lacking the appropriate customers base, and may not have
