Christianity is a religion in which sex is taboo, and there is simply no getting around that fact. There are Christians that think sex is alright, that it’s okay, but only if your married and you have a mature relationship with your spouse, and there is this reluctance it seems to allow people to have sex. If one reads anything of Christian writing prior to, let’s say, the year 1800, you will find that it is not alright to have sex. Sex is tolerated between married couples and is strictly for the procreation of children, but to do without sex is considered best. As Saint Paul put it, it is better to marry than to burn, to burn with the fire of lust, and to then ultimately burn in the fires of hell (1 Corinthians 7-9). There is no getting away from it, look at the writings of all the Catholic Church Fathers, from St. Paul himself all the way to Saint Ignatius Loyola or any other relatively modern leader of Catholic Church spirituality. Look at the writings of John Calvin or John Knox and you will see the same message: Sex is sin, that sex is filth, and that sex is dirt. It was preached, and taught that sex was in opposition of spiritual greatness for nearly two thousand years, that sex is all bad; there is something very wrong and immoral about sex. It needs to be pointed out that there is another side to this coin,
