As seen in recent statistics sexual health in young adults is a significant problem. Though over the past few years the rates of teen pregnancy have been decreasing, this remains untrue for the rates of STD’s, STI’s, and birth control use in young adults. Young adults count for almost half of the twenty million new cases of sexually transmitted diseases each year (Sexually Transmitted Diseases, 2014). This statistic is astonishing considering there are many ways to get young adults to take their sexual health importantly. It requires a positive and respectful approach to sexuality and sexual relationships, as well as the possibility of having pleasurable and safe sexual experiences, free of coercion, discrimination, and violence.” To help me achieve my goal of promoting sexual health, I plan on using the Health Belief Model and the Theory of Planned Behavior. In the Health Belief Model one must first feel that there is a health threat. In the case of sexual health, the threat could be several things including: pregnancy, and sexually transmitted diseases or infections. Since young adults are often the spotlight for targeting sexual health, my program will remain relevant. With it being implemented in places where they will be able to access it, young adults will have easy access to the information presented in the program. This includes information on the male and female reproductive system, all forms of birth control, sexually transmitted diseases and infections, abstinence, the impact of teen pregnancy, ways to seek help regarding personal sexual health, and the resources available to
