What Are The Benefits Of Safe Sex Education

If you give a man a fishing pole that has never used one before and you tell him to fish not only will he not know how, but he won 't know what to do once he 's caught a fish. Similarly if boys and girls are not educated on how to practice safe sex and the various options they have should something go wrong then they won’t know what to do; they will more than likely take the easy way out which would be abortion. By offering free birth control and better educate not just women, but men on sex then we can decrease the amount of unintended pregnancies which could cause the abortion rate to lower. A nationwide program that educates young people of all races and sexualities how to practice safe sex is a better solution than a health class that has a curriculum that varies state to state and only teaches abstinence rather than practicing safe sex or simply offering birth control. Education in all areas of life is vital because ignorance is something that guarantees a serious …show more content…
If the expectant mother was educated on all risks that come with pregnancy as well as how to prevent unplanned pregnancy the rate of abortion would drop.
Sex education programs have been proven to actually lower abortion rate and the number of young adolescents having unsafe sex. Abstinence programs aren’t as effective as sex education programs because “An influential minority of individuals promote unrealistic, abstinence-only programs and parental consent requirements for obtaining contraception that deny American teens accurate information about and confidential access to family planning services to prevent pregnancy”(Planned Parenthood). In other words these individuals are promoting ignorance. Another reason abstinence only programs aren’t effective is because “ they fail to delay the onset of intercourse and often provide information that is medically inaccurate and potentially misleading (Kirby, 2007; Kohler et al., 2008; Lin & Santelli, 2008; Trenholm

Additionally many studies have taken a large scale approach, looking at trends across the United States. Stanger-Hall and Hall (2011) investigated the change in teen pregnancy rates as states implemented abstinence-only sex education. Even after accounting for confounding variables such as socioeconomic status or access to family planning services, they found that the increased emphasis on abstinence-based sex education was positively correlated with teenage pregnancy. This was shown on a national level, but also state based. The teenage pregnancy rates are highest in the states that heavily require abstinence…

Sex is going to happen among public school students no matter what. According to “Teen Sexuality and Pregnancy,” 62 percent of high school seniors in the United States have had sex. The argument over whether to teach Abstinence-only or Comprehensive Sex education is ongoing and yet unnecessary. There is absolutely no possible way to insure that every single public school student refrains from having sex until marriage.…

Along with Freakonomics co-author Steven Levitt, PhD, wrote that after abortion was legalized, “Conceptions rose by nearly 30 percent, but births actually fell by 6 percent, indicating that many women were using abortion as a method of birth control, a crude and drastic sort of insurance policy” (“Should Abortion Be Legal?”). This should not be allowed. A solution to this problem would be to better educate teens and young adults about using protection. Many teens are uneducated about the importance of contraceptives because they realize there are other options now. Instead of money being funded to promote planned parenthood and abortions we should educate people on using protection and provide teens with a place to receive free…

The Harmful Inaccuracies of Abstinence-Only Education For many reasons, including both moral and financial, “Abstinence-Only-Until-Marriage” sexual education programs are taught all across America. These are programs that emphasize abstaining from sex until marriage, and generally tell students that this is the most effective way to avoid pregnancy and diseases. These programs often do not teach about other forms of contraception, with the belief that abstinence should be enough. Unfortunately, these programs are still taught despite the mounting evidence showing that not only are they ineffective, but actively harmful to the student’s health.…

This is especially needed today, as we are no longer necessarily an abstinence abiding culture. As sexuality and comprehensive sexual education become more normalized, there is a greater need for it. Comprehensive sexual education is critical for teens to learn factual information on how to protect themselves and gain a better understanding of their own bodies. Thus, giving them the opportunity to put their care and understanding into their own hands, with the complete privacy that Planned Parenthood so strongly believes in. If people are educated on their reproductive rights and ways to protect themselves, they are then enabling themselves to avoid situations in which they can suffer from.…

It has always been the parents job to teach their sons and daughters about the birds and the bees, but what if parents choose to avoid the conversation altogether? Every child deserves equally inclusive education about their sexuality, regardless of the child’s zip code, nationality, religion, or gender. Abstinence-only education continues to be taught to students in attempt to decrease sexual activity within teenagers and to promote committing to a single sexual partner through marriage. While abstinence-only education may be viewed as the easiest answer to preventing teenagers from having sex, the Center for Disease Control states that 47% of all high school students are or have been sexually active as of 2016 (“State”). Aside from being…

Abortion is a much argued discussion here in America; everyone has their own opinion on the situation. I for one stand by the idea that everyone should have the right to choice what they want to do in regards to abortion. There shouldn’t be any politicians or religious groups getting involved in a women’s personal choice. But we don’t live in a perfect world that’s I propose a solution that maybe more people can agree upon; abortion should be allowed under circumstances. There is something called the “The Woman’s Right…

Each year, U.S. teens experience as many as 850,000 pregnancies, and youth under age 25 experience about 9.1 million sexually transmitted infections. The sexual education in schools cannot claim innocence because if the education for this topic was better, teenagers would not have gotten these diseases. “Controversy arises when abstinence is provided to adolescents as a sole choice and where health information on other choices is restricted or misrepresented” (Santelli 1). Many young children misinterpret abstinence-only programs and this is why young girls may end up in abortion…

Students who are hidden away from necessary sexual education are most likely to become pregnant at a young age, especially if their environmental status is unfavorable. The CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) explains, “Less favorable socioeconomic conditions, such as low education and low income levels of a teen 's family, may contribute to high teen birth rates.” The aforementioned CDC statement simply means that those who are not exposed to education about prevention, protection, and awareness on teen pregnancy, are most likely to boom this overpopulated earth. In addition, according to the UN (the United Nations), the deprivation of authentic sexual curriculum will not merely affect the proliferation of teenage pregnancy but will also affect issues such as the spread of diseases, reproductive health, safe motherhood, and human rights Therefore, reproductive criteria can lower the rates of teenage pregnancy in the United States by properly informing the people on how to take precautions before engaging in sexual…

Due to parent’s having concerns that their child will become sexually active too early, they are putting their children at risk of not being prepared for dealing with how to properly handle what is expected to happen during their teenage and young adult years. Abstinence only sexual education is believed to be the best form of sexual education by many parents, but in reality it can cause a number of negative effects on teenager’s sexual knowledge and their abstinence. Abstinence only sexual education’s main focus is to inform teenagers that they should remain abstinent until they are married. Abstinence only sex education typically does not include any type of information on the reproductive system, contraception, preventing diseases and pregnancy, or how to have sex safely. Most abstinent only programs have also been proven to be “biased”, based on religious beliefs, include false information about the effectiveness of the use contraceptives, masturbation, and abortion.…

Many believe parents do not sufficiently educate their children about the topics of parenting and sex education and feel that schools need to provide teens with training for adulthood and having it mandatory to complete parenting classes. Having such classes and also being required to take a sex education class would help students realize the importance of sex education and being properly trained for parenthood. Parents often believe sexuality, family planning and parenting needs to be taught at home, however, having a sex education class and a parent training class as a required credit in high school would help prevent future child abuse and neglect, gain crucial parenting skills, understanding of child development and help prevent teen pregnancy…
