The Importance Of Sex Education In Schools

Sex education is essential to the younger generation in keeping them aware of the risks following sexual activities. While teaching sex education to children has diminished over the years, in actuality, society finds this as an arguable debate on whether it should or should not be taught in schools. Many people feel that morals are lowered when the use of condoms and anti-fertility are introduced in schools. Parents sense that this form of education urges adolescents to experiment instead of abstaining. Sex education is mostly taught in public schools because of the huge quantity of students. Some schools may start sex education classes at the fourth grade level, but majority will usually start in either middle school or high school. You never know the sex law until you determine which state you are looking in because they vary so much. The passage stated, “in some states, a parent can prevent their child from being sexually active and receive the pleasure that most teenagers are getting” (Sex Education in Schools.) Some states do not have laws for sexual education but that does not mean rules are not to be followed. Being sexually active outside of marriage can result in an unwanted pregnancy. People must remember that even if the law expresses a law about sex education it does not always solve the problems faced today. There are some people that will be in favor of sex education classes and some that are against it. The passage on sex education stated,”there is a lower percentage of kids that have had sex with four or more partners in their life compared to just having sex in high school”( State Policies on Sex Education.) The STD and pregnancy rates are continually rising every day. Therefore, it is important for our younger generation to have knowledge on what to expect. Sex education classes do more than educate kids on sexual intercourse and diseases; it also helps with communication and social skills that will be useful later in life.
