For one you are not allowed to have chewing gum, spit, litter, jay walk, dance on counters or tables at a bar, smoke indoors, drink and drive, be drunk in public, or take drugs. In certain situations, just carrying a small amount of certain drugs can make you face a death sentence. Singapore has limits on the freedom of speech. One limit on the Singaporeans freedom of speech is the monitoring and censorship of the internet and the media. Not all political topics are acceptable to talk about in public. Under the sedition act it is against the law to make any comment or action that is critical of the Singaporean government. It bans most topics of race, religion, and sexuality. Some even say that this restriction of their free speech cause some racial tension that the Sedition Act is supposed to prevent. Some even say “without the opportunity to openly discuss matters of racial diversity, antipathy could blossom more easily” (InterNations). So when people are going to live and work in Singapore they have to be careful to what they discuss and talk about in public which includes social media, since that is monitored and censored by the government. English is becoming one of the most used languages in the world. Singapore is a very diverse nation, ethnically and religiously. Because of its size, Singapore is dependent on international trade. It is an economy based on free and open trade markets. Its economy is fueled by imports and exports. The reason that I chose to set up a for-profit school in Singapore is to help them better their English. Singapore enjoys good relationships with some major trading partners like China and the United States. Singapore continues to enjoy good relations and a friendship with the United States. To continue to have good relations with the United States and other Western powers, there will be a need for the English language. Singapore enjoys a high standard of living and one of the highest standards of living in Asia and the rest of the world. In order to continue this success and growth, they will need to continue to use English to communicate with some of the major trading partners. English will continue to become one of the most used languages in formal situations and business practices. Setting up a school in Singapore will continue to help them learn English and continue their success on a global
