Personal Narrative: My Service Trip To America

1) Genuinely, I have felt the call to go on a service trip and I mean that very much. There have been countless nights where I have sat on my iPad searching the internet for service trips. I have looked at trips to Ghana, the Philippines, and India. I have watched hour long documentaries on international trips to Africa. I really and truly have sat in my bed crying over these films. I am not joking when I say my email box is full from the CIEE, Global Leaders of America, and StudyAbroad.com. Every trip that seems to be the perfect one always had a tremendous flaw. It was either too expensive, to far away, or ironically did not entail much service. This trip has always been sort of a dream I have heard about from upper classmen and I want to make that dream happen. For the past 15 years, I've had the typical American summer filled with pools, lake houses and vacations; however, this summer I want to experience a way I haven’t before.
2) I have heard stories about how this trip is life changing. How the girls find it so easy to be themselves in a culture that is so different from their own, yet find themselves surrounded with beautiful people who all have wonderful hearts. You

There are always way too many volunteers, which is a blessing, but I tend to stray away from the more physical parts of volunteering because those jobs are taken. I like to sit down and talk to the homeless because time after time people give them material things. They receive food, water, clothing, and housing, but they are still lonely. This is the only service I do all year were all I am doing is giving love. I am simply talking and I have been told that is what they are the most thankful for that Thanksgiving.
