Also, I enjoyed serving God and others by being helpful, and getting to build a relationship with the kids. Serving was fun, too! I had fun getting to know the kids, and hang out with them. I’ve also been able to learn more about how to teach children and skills that will help. Also, I had fun getting to pray to The Lord God Almighty for them and their prayer requests. When we did our booth sales I got a lot of practice trying to make good sales. I was often told that I would make a great saleswoman which is a great skill to have when looking for a job. The camping trips helped me learn a little more about independence, responsibility, and respect.…

For my sixty hours of volunteer work I decided to volunteer at a Child Life Center which was in a poverty stricken area in Norfolk, Va. At the child life center my job as a volunteer was to assist the children with their homework, help the staff monitor the children on local field trips, as well as serve as a positive role model for the children. The experience I had at Park Place Child Life Center was one I will honestly never forget. Although I didn’t get any actual counseling experience, I was able to learn the ways that the non-profit organization received their funding, I was able to gain experience in working with the youth, and I was also able to make a positive impact on the lives of children who were considered “at-risk youth”. To go there every day and be able to see the change the children had in their behaviors and how much just some attention and affection from adults impacted their behaviors was honestly amazing.…

The problem was that I may get in trouble for not knowing what call to make in reffing which could affect my relationship with all the people I knew at my parish. Being in the missions practicum, we don’t have a place that we can serve on Sundays that really correlates with our practicum. I decided that I would do something out of my comfort zone and volunteer in the kids area on Sundays and serve in Youth on Wednesdays. I didn’t pray about this, I just jumped right in and assumed it was right because it was out of my comfort zone and as christians, we are supposed to "step out onto the unknown waters.” I even talked to a children’s pastor and I was going to help out at the new James River North campus that was opening literally that Sunday. I felt a good feeling about the North Campus.…

This lead me to the realization that this is how I can serve, by doing the thing that people either could not do, or what they did not want to do. I do not like it either but hopefully through my service they see Jesus in me and will want to do the same. The next mission trip that had the biggest impact was my trip to prison. It was this past February and the scariest experience in my life. Robert held up to his promise and we went into the unit with a group called Diciples4Christ.…
