The first time I heard about senior prom is after I came to study in America, two years ago. It seems that almost everyone in the school looks forward to the senior prom. I found that senior prom is a rite event in America. Something that should not be missed. However, the overall situation in America is not like that in my school. According to YouGov’s research, “Most Americans (59%) think that proms are overrated, and only 41% say that they're important”. It brings a debate about whether to keep the senior prom in high school. I believe that prom needs to be defended, because it gives seniors time to relax, teach them social skills, and provides them last happy memory for high school.

Most students go to colleges that are far away from their home. That means, those teenagers need to leave their home and become more independent than ever before. Many students may feel nervous before they need to leave their home for couple months. Prom is a special gift for them at that time. In the prom, students can make their own choices. Girls choose their favorite dresses, and boys wear the suits they like. Not long after the prom, those teenagers will leave high school and go to their colleges. However, in the prom, girls and boys can get together to dance and to talk. The prom imitates the social activities that they may experience in the future. It is a good chance for them to learn how to communicate with others in a more social way, thus prepare the communication skills for their college life or even later. What is more, many girls treat the senior prom very seriously. They are waiting for the prom since they first got into elementary school. It is unfair to not keep the senior prom. It is the action of killing those girls’
