Throughout the first semester of College Composition, I wrestled with three essays, all differing in format and content. The first was a narrative that reflected our educational experience. After this came an analysis of a visual text, followed by a research paper. The narrative was the easiest to write; however, I acquired important skills for writing the other two, which were in a less familiar format. With the three essays, I learned about my own writing skills and habits concerning development and critical thinking, time management, and organization.…

The article “Why Is Dissemination So Difficult? The Nature of Teacher Knowledge and the Spread of Curriculum Reform” by Cheryl J. Craig, is informative and insightful because the author expresses her beliefs about curriculum dissemination from the narrative and perspective of Bernadette Lohle, a veteran teacher involved in a nationally funded curriculum dissemination project at Cochrane Academy School for the Mathematics, Sciences, and Fine Arts in New York. Lohle’s reactions capture tensions concerning how she could “disseminate” her knowledge and participate in the spread of curriculum reform ideas as stipulated in her school’s awarded grant proposal (p.257). According to Craig, teachers are curriculum makers rather than curriculum implementers (Tyler and Schwab, Clandinin and Connelly,1992).…

When I was young I was never the best at reading even though my parents owned many books and magazines that they read on a daily basis. My mother enjoyed reading her gossip magazines that she would receive in the mail once a month and my father had a whole bookshelf full of history books. My parents would always encourage me to read the books I would check out at the school library to improve my reading and writing but that advice usually went in through one ear and out the other. The only books I would really attempt to read had to be humorous or horrifying, my favorites were the Goosebumps collection. I loved reading these books alone in my room where I couldn’t be sidetracked by all the commotion that went on in my house.…
