The twenty first century has become more demanding for managers in different areas of life such as professional career, communications and relationships. For instance, these businesses environments require them to manage in challenging situation and to respond adequately to new technology. Several studies advocate that successful managers have previously improved their self-awareness (McCarthy & Garavan, 2001). Therefore, for managers to run their business successfully, it is imperative to critically analyse if a deep self-awareness of managers will enable them to be successful and also if in being aware of them, a need to respond to change will follow, requiring them to seek continuously new knowledge or skills.

Being aware of their strengths and weaknesses is a vital step in understanding what their current self-development needs actually are. For instance, feedbacks received from the residential weekend indicate that I possess a low level of assertiveness. Therefore, I should definitely develop my communication skills as this is an important ability for reaching managerial excellence. To be able to challenge effortlessly an unexpected situation, Stockdale and Sleeper (2012) suggested that we should be aware of how our behaviour is influenced by our thinking and feelings. This suggestion certifies that in becoming more aware of me, I will develop an understanding of my proper emotions; ways of managing negative emotions effectively and I will recognise that continuous self-development is a gateway to success.
