Human potential was and still is studied by many theorists. Maslow and Roger both believe that people have the opportunity under the right circumstances to become the best person they can possibly be. The Self Determination Theory uses and organismic metatheory, and assumes that people want to move forward and be better within their life and discusses the different types of motivations(Guay 2013). This process then promotes full functioning which is when people use everything they can for their own personal productivity. These certain behaviors all coincide within another. For example, extrinsically is motivated by behavior, behaviors are motivated by values, and emotion is motivated by behaviors(Guay 2013).. All people have basic needs which …show more content…
When a person has autonomic support there has been a much better outcome in their happiness and other needs. Autonomy supportive teaching is a very crucial part of teaching today. This helps make student’s feel self-motivated and competent enough to learn the material and also have support from their teachers. During this type of learning, teachers will start by figuring out the student’s needs (Kusurkar). They will then structure the lesson around the students’ needs and motivation and encourage participation among the student (Kusurkar). An important phase is for the teacher to help the student take their own responsibility for their learning and making sure they know they are to be held accountable but the teacher will be there for any support that is needed (Kusurkar).. The teacher then throws obstacles, gives feedback (both positive and negative), and provides support to the student (Kusurkar). It is important for the teacher to provide reasons why there is a need for learning the area’s that specific child is not motivated or interested in (Kursurkar). If the teacher and student use these steps and tips, the student is much more likely to feel motivated and engaged in their work. I personally think this is an effective motivation teaching method. The consequence can either be positive, or negative. External motivation is when there is some sort of external reward or punishment such as getting money for good grades. Identified motivation is when the person is given some sort of choice. When they do the task, it is because it is important to the person. Integrated is the most complete type of motivation and it is associated with the direct needs of the person(Guay 2013). Because there are so many different types of motivation, schools are designed to control motivation amongst students. Emotional and effective regulation is said to be learned over time. Integrated is being aware of ones feelings and having a sense of choice is also said to be the most mature form, often being developed over time(Guay 2013).. Suppressive regulation is when one tries to hide their emotions such as not crying when they are sad.
