Should Students Wear School Uniforms

Throughout a child’s development, it has been shown that stimulating creativity and individuality produces well rounded adults. Part of creativity is expressing you through personal appearance. Uniforms are being used widely in private and public schools around the world. Experts claim they are used to take the competition out of the way one dresses, keeps the focus on learning, and bring safety back to the school halls. But in all reality they tend to make things worse. They take away a student’s individuality and put the focus of schooling on appearance rather than the content of one’s mind. A uniform has no reflection on one’s mind or moral values. Adopting school uniforms has not been shown to improve either behavior or academic achievement; it is time for schools to abandon them.
While many experts say that kids who wear uniforms have fewer behavioral issues, correlation does not justify causation. A child’s behavioral issues are

School uniforms cannot improve one’s behavior or academic achievement; schools should be spending time focusing on more important ideals. They take away a student’s individuality and they show no consistent improvement with student behavior or academic achievement. With no consistent research behind the decision, there is no reason to think that what student wears will change how they act and present themselves to others. This can make that student lash out more than they ever have before causing so much disruption in their school day, as well as the administrations. More effort should be put towards the children’s wellbeing, not what a child wears to school. A child is not a dress up doll; they are a living human with feelings, creativity, and preferences. A child has a favorite color, a favorite song, and a favorite shirt. Stifling these things in a child will not make a better student, and it definitely will not make a better working adult. A uniform doesn’t make student better, a healthy mind, and a good work ethic

A uniform should not create pride on a student; the student should have pride with or without a uniform. Evan demonstrates an example of students self-confidence in an article called “I believe students should not have to wear uniforms” when she acknowledges “Teachers are always saying how important it is to just be ourselves and not worry about what others might think . Having a uniform takes that away from us and this may lead students to try finding other ways to be different” (Evan, 1). Evan expresses that society now and days tend to create a picture out of a uniform and it should not be that way because uniforms shouldn’t create an identity for a student, all students have different identities. Evan also makes another good point against Spencer’s argument for example “Being different is a huge part of being in school and I think we should be able to have the privilege of wearing what we want.…

Children go to school to learn and adopt basic life skills in-order to succeed in life. So when the opposition say that uniforms limits self-expressions, it is uncomfortable, and expensive, are just over the top (Arguments against School Uniforms) n. pag.). I am not here to argument the opposition, but to politely say that they are wrong when it comes to their opinion on uniforms in public school. Child psychologist Dr. Alan Hilfer, stood his ground on his argument and implied that uniforms is not responsible for school violence, but the lack of teaching on how violence is not the way to go.…

I agree that the job of teaching self-esteem should not be held to the teachers. Instead, parents should help students with their self-esteem. Getting easy A’s is not something a student should be proud of, and it is not giving them the right kind of self-confidence for when they enter the real world. I feel that when they come to the real world when nothing is given to them, it will tear down any of the great self-esteem that they had while in secondary education. This is because the student believes his or her work ethic was good, but it was just their teachers holding their hands along the…

One of the cons would be that it violates students’ rights, stifles creativity and individuality and parents don’t want their children wearing clothes that they are forced to wear. They prefer that children are allowed to express themselves with their clothes. Another con is there is no accurate research about whether school uniforms improves school problems because when schools change to a school uniforms they also change the curriculum and rules and the research is based on belief, most of the time, so before changing to a school uniforms there should be more scientific research taken.
