Trespassers are easier to identify. According to the research directed by the (NAESP) school uniforms had a 62% favorable impact on school safety and a 67% increase in student attentiveness. Among those safety concerns, is gang activity which can be a vast issue. Not only does gang activity interfere with school safety but also interferes with academic development. Uniforms eliminate gang colors. Gang activity impedes students to focus on their academic studies and break out violence amongst the student body. Parents and students claim that implementing school uniforms is unconstitutional. By requiring school uniforms a student’s freedom of expression is taken away, “suppressing their identity and individuality” (“School Uniforms”). Opposes also believe that school uniforms are gender biased meaning females are not allowed to wear slacks and must wear dresses or skirts. However, the positive impact school uniforms have made in institutions of education, are greater than the one who have not adopted the uniforms, outweighs the few claim of individually infringement.
