When I started my first corporate job at Capital One, I had so many concerns that I would not have any special value to offer the company. After a few months in the role, I became a mentor to our new hires and learned that I could have a voice in this corporate world. During monthly meetings with my mentees, I realized that majority of them were not able to identify and accurately monitor all of their performance metrics after training. I thought back to what my experience was like when I first started with the company and how I had to actively seek this vital knowledge as well. I realized there was a learning gap in the training program, and it was affecting how prepared new associates felt when transitioning into the sales role. I immediately became determined to make this a better experience for the next class of hires. I had to challenge myself to thinking critically on the issue at hand if I was going to make this change a reality; I knew I had to fully analyze and evaluate the training program, then start problem solving and making important decisions. …show more content…
After the changes around the training of new associates were identified, it motivated a shift in the culture around associate feedback. It has become a priority to revisit new hire classes regularly to gain feedback. I have now become one of the sales departments “go-to” associates when they are seeking direct feedback on processes. I am proud to say that by using my critical thinking skills, I was able to get this issue resolved. If I neglected to truly evaluate the situation or did not use my problem solving abilities to come up with a solution, this may still be an existing issue today.
