The Importance Of Risks In Beowulf

While trying to live life safe we are always facing risks. From the time we wake up to the time we get into bed, there is millions of risks that we have gone across. Although taking risks seem scary sometimes, they are really important without a doubt. If people don’t take risks they will never have a clear answer. Taking risks will definitely give you the opportunity to live a fuller life, full of experiences that will help shape who you are. Beowulf by The Beowulf Poet, The Deep by Anthony Doerr, and Blackheart by Mark Brazaitis are stories very different but with one main point, risks. With these stories I saw how risks were taken and how each was so different but at the end bravery and courage was the key. In Beowulf we see how he has characteristic of a hero which makes him an epic hero. He is brave and not scared of no one. We see he takes many risks for the safety of his town. As he gets ready to defeat the monster Beowulf says ”I, alone and with the help of my men, may purge all evil from this hall. Emily is very lonely which makes her that one risk that can have an deadly outcome. Black heart is a dog that is trained to kill anyone, which makes Emily very intrigued. Here we see how the risk can’t be taken back “Too late. Black Heart is at her side, so close she can feel the heat coming from him. She thinks, I’m going to die. At the same time, exhilaration fill her.”(223-224) . She knew nobody was going to be able to save her if she was close to Black Heart but she decide to still take that risk. The outcome of this risk was exactly what she knew it would be. She said “ I’m safe. But-no- it is Black Heart, mouth at her ear, who is singing.”(264). We see that the risk Emily took was not worth because at the end she is killed by this dog that she is so intrigued
