Liberal arts have been around a long time and Cardinal Newman’s Idea of a University suggested it will live on for even longer if we stick to what we have been doing. Liberal education has a lot to do with skill and finding reasoning, not so much what we talk about but how we talk about it, such as, grammar, rhetoric, and logic. The approach is more meaningful, the skill and logic we use to reach an audience are what matters. We use communication, analysis and problem-solving skills and apply them to real world settings. Slave were capable of making decisions and could possibly be better managers than their masters. This was a problem because that created fear in slaves to feel free. They were not allowed to speak in assembly and couldn’t really involve themselves in anything that had to do with rights of a free citizen. This was absurd because they contributed to the community just as much as anyone else if not more. This went against all factors of free citizenship and democracy because not all the people were eligible to the rights and duties of free citizenship. The trivium was the start of proper grammar and speech. There were so many political contradictions that only served education to some and not all. The quadrivium was arithmetic which still put the slaves at a disadvantage. Liberal arts were a positive for human improvement, but the restrictions to who could experience such a privilege proved the inequalities of the time
