Organizations need leaders who are able to handle a multitude of scenarios and a variety of personalities, all the while containing the innate ability to push toward the strategic goals. Resilient leadership can be expressed as, “selfless service over time from a platform of character and competence” (Dees, 2013, p.45). Dees (2013) sums up resiliency with a passage from II Corinthians 4:8-9, “We are pressed on every side by troubles, but we are not crushed. We are perplexed, but not driven to despair. We are hunted down, but never abandoned by God. We get knocked down, but we are not destroyed” (New Living Translation). Selfless service is putting genuine compassion together with acts of sacrifice, to impact the life of others; organizations will benefit greatly from identifying and developing leaders that embody selflessness. One can argue that integrity is a critical component of the other two, as it provides the guiding principles that turns actions into purposeful meaningful actions. Polanski, Cullen, Gentry, and Nichols’ (2015) study shows that there appears to be an automatic empowerment of courage when a leader is navigating through adversity, however, they also note subordinates pay more attention to leaders, and this empowerment may be short lived. The authors conclude that courage without integrity will lead to behaviors incongruent with what they term behavioral courage (p. 306). Ultimately, character comes from within us all, and is deeply seeded within our hearts. “If you have a sense of what your values are, it becomes a little bit easier for you to figure out what is right or wrong” (Crossan, Mazutis, Seijts, & Gandz, 2013, p. 286).
Biblical Integration
The bible shares many examples of Christ followers gaining victory over tribulation. It even teaches in the gospel of John, “In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” (New International Version) Jesus encourages believers that even in the most difficult times He has ensured victory for those who will …show more content…
Strategic risk management can be defined as “a process of identifying, assessing and economically managing potentially enterprise-threatening losses over time” (Calandro, 2015, p.1). Leck (2014) proposes leaders take the six steps of 1) Identifying the hazards, 2) Assessing the risk, 3) Analyzing risk control measures, 4) Managing risk control decisions, 5) Implementing risk control measures, and 6) Supervising and reviewing. Risk management requires continuous learning from previous failures to inform future decisions. As leaders learn to anticipate risk, understand emergency responses, and exert their authority within areas of responsibility they will place their followers in better environments for all possible situations and strongly set up an organization for
