How important is your reputation for you? Many people assume that your reputation is one of the most important things that you can have. In the book the Crucible, there are many people who think that their reputation is the most important thing ever. There are three characters that you can see do this through the book. Are reputation really that important that you doing anything to keep a good one, even if you know that you have done badly, or you try hard to convince people that you still have a good reputation and that you never did the things you are accused of. Many people are very concerned about their reputation, occasionally that's all people care about. In the book the Crucible, Reverend Parris is an amazing example Of someone who only cares about himself and wants to make sure his reputation won't be hurt in anyway. In the book when his daughter falls ill, and can't wake up. When he goes to check on her and witchcraft is brought up all he had to say was. In the book when everyone is saying the girls were lying the whole time, he said that he can't let someone go now cause people might start thinking he judgment isn't very good. All Danforth really cared about was making people think he was the best and that he was right. So when people started to question him he got very defensive. “I tell you straight, Mister—I have seen marvels in this court. I have seen people choked before my eyes by spirits; I have seen them stuck with pins and slashed by daggers. I have until this moment not the slightest reason to suspect that the children may be deceiving me. Do you understand my meaning?”(Danforth). In this quote Danforth is trying to defend himself, by saying not for a minute he thought these girls were lying. Danforth is not the only person that cares about their reputation there is one more person that clearly cares about
