The Importance Of Remembrance Day

Improved Essays
Not once have I seen ANYTHING from Veterans Affairs, the legion or even from an actual veteran that putting up Christmas decorations before Remembrance Day is disrespectful to them. So why is everyone “quoting” these veterans and saying it is?

If it is, let the veterans tell us themselves. Any veteran or current serving military I’ve actually talked to doesn’t find it disrespectful, in fact most of them put Christmas decorations up before November 11th. What I find disrespectful is everyone who just doesn’t like Christmas coming early, so they using veterans as a way to launch their complaints and claim legitimacy to them.
This isn’t any different the people who say that wearing a poppy with a Canadian flag pin is disrespectful. Have you eery stopped to look at who actually wears the poppy this way? It’s veterans! They do it so they don’t loose their poppy (and my thought was so they don’t stab them selves with the pokey end like I do all the time...lol).

It makes them happy and that is all that matters.

So going around saying it’s disrespectful to them is what is actually what is disrespectful. Next time you want to mention it’s disrespectful to them to put up Christmas decorations, stop, because you’re just trying to come up with an excuse so that you don’t come across as the grinch. Don’t use veterans as an excuse because it’s something you don’t like, that is what is disrespectful to

In this transcript of “Mayor Landrieu’s Address on Confederate Monuments” written by Derek Cosson, Mayor Landrieu advocates for the removal of Confederate monuments located in New Orleans’. The mayor states, “it is self-evident that these men did not fight for the United States of America, they fought against it. They may have been warriors, but in this cause, they were not patriots” (pg.4, 2017). The essence of Mayor Landrieu’s argument is that these statues of Confederate soldiers are not to remain as they glorify the soldiers and the actions that they have done in the past. Statues are there to remember those who are worth remembering for their work to make the country as marvelous as can be.…

John Daniel Davidson, the author of “Why We Should Keep The Confederate Monuments Right Were They Are”, provides several arguments against the removal of the statues. One of his reasons to preserve the monuments is in the interest of honoring those who fought for their statehood and passed away. Davidson’s argument revolves around the grieving process for descending family members, and the necessary remembrance for generations to come. Davidson writes that necessity for these statues arose decades later, once many of the remaining veterans died.…

The question being asked of me is “Why Veterans are Important to Our Nation’s History and Future?” Veterans are important to me because I live with two of them and I have a lot of them in my family. Without them, I wouldn’t know the reason why we have people sacrificing themselves for our country. My Grandpa, Roy Noble, always said that “War is not good but fighting for our country is,” I didn’t really understand that until I realized without them we wouldn’t have a free country. Britain would have taken over and we would have a queen instead of a president, or something like that.…

“The true soldier fights not because he hates what is in front of him, but because he loves what is behind him,” said G.K. Chesterton. A love for their country is why my veterans serve. It never really sunk into me how much veterans sacrifice for us. I think that we need to show as much respect to people that have served in the military forces to make us be able to be free. Or be able to pursue whatever we would like to.…

Term Paper Option 4 Andrea Castro Mascots are big in the NCAA, and they should be. Mascots are the ultimate pride of the team, but just because they are so important when it comes to different sport teams, they shouldn’t mock the lives and history of Native American Culture. When team mascots run around with cultural attire on it creates an illusion that racism is acceptable in sports. Offensive mascots in the NCAA do not only question racism, but they also create social conflict.…

Why would some people think that degrading the Native American culture is okay? It is not our culture to use, which is why schools and teams should not be able to use aspects of the Native American culture as mascots. This is shown because the mascots negatively affect Native Americans feeling of self worth and it is also a racist stereotype. Having Native American mascots negatively affect Native Americans feeling of self worth.…

The Christmas tree tradition started 1000 years ago in Northern Europe. The trees were used for decoration, a reminder of spring, festivals, and a symbol of everlasting life with God. Throughout the years things would change about the tree. They went from small parts of trees for decoration to being full trees hung upside down for decoration then after they were hung upside down it became more of a tradition to put them in cities and have dances then set them on fire, they would then parade them through cities. We now have the Christmas trees that are put in our houses and decorated with ornaments and lights.…

I am not a fan of Christmas music, or really festive music whatsoever. Mariah Carey, Michael Bublé, and the ever popular Bing Cosby just seem too cheesy for me. Hearing Christmas music repeatedly over the years from Thanksgiving to January every year, has made me form this rather Scrooge-like opinion. Don’t get me wrong, I love the idea of the holiday season! Everyone coming home from far and wide to see family and friends and spend time with one another, I just see most modern Christmas music as tacky and heartless.…
