Catholic Role Model

In my daily life, I encounter law, worship, and deeds of loving-kindness within school and my family. Looking past federal law, there are laws that I always should abide by, like the laws and rules that my parents set for me and that FSHA sets. An example of a law that my parents gave me is to always be responsible: when I am not responsible for my schoolwork and actions, I end up getting in trouble. At FSHA, we are expected to always focus in class and not use technology to take away from the learning experience by going on different websites during class. For worship, I am a practicing Catholic, and my mom and I pray every morning on the way to my bus stop. We try to go to Mass as often as we can, although sometimes life gets hectic and we cannot go. However, having a positive, Catholic role model in my mom really helps me grasp what it means to be Catholic and to worship God. While I may not agree with some of the tenets of Christianity and Catholicism, my mom explained to me that the worship that takes place within each religion is different for every person, and that whatever lies in my heart is a result of God’s will. That makes sense to me: worshipping a God that supports individual thought and my own interpretations, but still ‘controls’ who I am overall. In terms of deeds of loving-kindness, I am shown kindness everyday by my parents, sister, and friends; my parents are always doing chores and housework at home and working hard during the day to make sure I can receive a proper education. My sister, although living at USC, texts me often to make sure that I am doing okay, and my friends are always providing me with advice when I am struggling or stressing out about school.
