Reflective Essay On La Sierra University

. I am convinced that my view of religion has changed, but I still carry the love of God in my heart. I love my neighbor despite of their skin color, sexual orientation, religious beliefs, geographical background, and/or cultural beliefs. Also, I am open to learning about other religious beliefs and respecting them for what they are. This is the reason why I decided to attend Cal Lutheran for graduate school, even though my religion owns La Sierra University and Loma Linda University. By the same token, as a first- year student, I was not aware of the importance of critical thinking. When I was a senior in college, my level of critical thinking arose. I was able to question the facts stated by my professors and I learned to use social theories to make logical reasoning and conceptualize the topics that were discussed throughout my upper-division courses. In other words, my social identities became clear as water. Even though I am a Latina, raised in a low-income household, a female, and heterosexual, I am capable of achieving my career goals if I do not let prejudice, racism, and discrimination take over who I am. Before, I had a lack of self-confidence because of the labels I was given by some of my social peers predominately by white folks. For instance, I had a Caucasian professor tell me that I was not college bound simply because my writing level was low compared to some of my white classmates. As a result, I felt inferior, stupid, and discriminated. Conversely, my mentality changed once I took courses about racism, gender and women studies, and sociology. My social identity became evident that I am a minority and underrepresented; however, this did not indicate that I was not equal to or incompetent compared to my other classmates. In other words, I was able to identify myself as unprivileged, and yet I was hardworking and determined to grow as a college
