There are also drawbacks that present themselves with the media and what it includes. Sources such as television, music and the Internet can impact relationships in a negative way. Many television shows or movies create a vision of what a relationship is meant to include. The older teenager may refer to these sources for advice and information about how to build a strong relationship with their significant other. The interpretation of this information is important, as it will be carried out in the actual relationship. Many people use the media as a basis for their relationship and this allows them to go into a relationship with confidence, as they know what to expect and what to put in. This can place a major level of stress on the relationship when the expectations aren’t met. The media also creates an image that young adults tend to follow and keep up with. Movies and TV shows create a visual representation of how a relationship should last longer with some drama on the side or something to keep in interesting. In romantic relationships the people involved feel they have a role to play according to what the media of society has stated. The media as a whole can impact a relationship and how it operates. Social media has destroyed face-to-face interactions between friends and their lovers. A teenagers view on relationships are altered as they would now believe it’s ok to be included in a relationship where the only way to communicate is through a device. In many movies the characters often create relationships with people that aren’t necessarily good for them, but do so because it’s fun and considered ‘cool’. When young adults are exposed to this material they copy what they watch and replay the same actions in real life. A situation can occur when a young adult is put in a position to decide whether or not they are ready for sex. This decision is then made using whatever information is present
