Lastly, recess helps develop skills, that middle schoolers and every person on this planet will need later on in life. Some of the skills learned are, how to communicate face-to-face with otherss, how to work with others, how to fix problems, to get along with others without an adult getting into the way, and how to be patient with others. Recess helps students to be able to think on their own. In students' lives students can do that, children can choose what game everyone wants to play and who they want to hang out with. A lot of researchers are looking at stats and seeing the United States is actually in the lower portion. Charles Doyle, the assistant dean of the School of Education at DePaul University, wrote ‘A Nation at Risk’. In this article he had many things in there. He had stated many times that the U.S. is always falling short compared to other places. Other Countries schools go to school 6-days a week year round, and don’t get breaks. Where U.S. schools are 5 days a week and off during july, may, August and half of June (Delp). To further explain, the U.S. does not need recess, they already get 2 days off a week and more than 3 months off a year. Furthermore, they are also saying that recess is causing to fail state test. Delp, the author of Should Middle schoolers have recess. Had wrote that having recess in middle school, makes it harder for kids do well on the state tests (Delp). This means that, just because middle schoolers have recess for about what 20 minutes, they then will fail state test. However, there is more evidence that supports that middle school, student should have recess, and that recess is not the cause of failing the state test.
