Women being raped or sexually assaulted is what is commonly on the news today. If this is so common in our society, then why are there no preventive measures being taken or more serious punishments being handed out? A lot of rapes or sexual assault are happening at Universities. These Universities are not taking enough preventative measures nor are they handing out serious punishment against rape or sexual assault. The universities need to take action against rape and sexual assaults by raising attention to it there also needs to be preventative measures like classes put in place about sexual assault and rape specifically how to identify, report and prevent it.
Universities need more programs related to sexual assault or rape. They need free self-defense classes, classes to inform about date-rape drugs, and places where the victims can go and get help. A lot of these rapes/ assaults

Men are affected by this conversation too even if they are the perpetrator or just a person that has seen something related to an assault. Men who are not involved in any of this should stand up against sexual assault/ rape. I doesn’t matter if they try to protect the person when they see a red flag or hold a “rally” of some sort to help the victims of sexual assault/ rape cases. If you are a man stand up against this injustice help someone avoid being involved in these cases or help the victims. This is also a man’s argument because a man could be close to the woman that has fallen victim like a mother, a sister, a close friend, or a girlfriend or possibly a man could even be the victim of rape so when rape or sexual assault is mentioned it is not only a topic that women should be worried about because men are affected by these horrible crimes as well. Universities could encourage males to stand up against sexual assault as

However, whether this crime is increasing or decreasing is up for debate. Based on statistics, the numbers widely vary across public Universities. University of Texas at Austin’s crime reports have been increasing, while Texas Tech’s has stayed mostly the same, and University of Texas at Arlington’s reports have shown a decreased over time. Multiple aspects could be majorly affecting the number of reports, such as: programs and organizations on campus that help to decrease the problem, current cultural aspects and increased feminine empowerment that lead to reports being made more often, or that police and the Universities cover up the true numbers in one way or another. Other academic studies have also shown that rape is a persistent problem…

Many people have different opinions on how colleges manage the allegations, threats and assaults. Are colleges managing the growing problem successfully with safety and prevention training with the help of the authorities. What efforts are being made to prevent future assaults? “The core problem is that campuses are not really equipped to be adjudicating these cases in the first place, and they’re being asked to do something that’s well outside of their competence,” says Joseph Cohn (Mantel 2). Colleges should be educated and trained like local law enforcement, so in the event of a reported assault the proper measures are taken to assure a conviction and future prevention of assaults on campus. “Only about 12 percent of rapes among college women are reported to law enforcement” (Mantel 3). Brandt-Young says in Barbra Mantel’s article that “People need to understand the dynamics of sexual assault and the dynamics of forensic interviewing, so that they don’t re-traumatize the victim while they investigate.” faculty and staff on college campuses are usually not sensitive to the victims trauma. At times their vigorously interrogating techniques and pressuring may cause the victim to shut down. Through such extreme lack of sensitivity and training the investigation may draw inconclusive, this is why it should be left to the trained professionals to head an assault investigation. In the article written by Jed Rubenfeld on the first page states that in 2007 the department of justice found that about one in ten undergraduate women had been raped at their college. No one should be raped or violated, especially in their home which most times are university campuses. They should be safe to learn, succeed and excel in a safe environment. She also states that only five percent or less of the victims report the assault to the police. This could be out of…

Sexual assault has proliferated across college campuses, and remains one of the most underreported violent type crimes in the country. The lifestyle college brings of staying up late, drinking, partying, going out to the bars and fraternizing with young men expose women to a higher risk of encountering unwanted sexual conduct. Statistics show that as many as one in every five females to attend college will experience some type of sexual assault in their academic career. Typically the only sexual assault cases at colleges that make the news are the ones involving student athletes. This is a very small number of all sexual assault cases and is unrepresentative of the magnitude of the problem. This problem needs to be better addressed by all universities to encourage victims to come forward and report these crimes.…

What if it was a fact that out of, say, one thousand freshman girls starting off at college this year, a total of two hundred of them will likely be a victim of sexual assault? According to Wood County’s Rape Crisis Center, in their brochure titled, You Don’t Have to Cope Alone: A Booklet for the Female Sexual Assault Survivor, sexual assault is defined to be “crimes involving sexual conduct or sexual contact.” In an article titled, “Researchers Just Found a Way to Reduce Sexual Assault on Campuses,” Ashley Nicole Bank, writer for Our Time Media, Inc., claims that one out of every five women experience some sort of sexual assault while they are attending college. That being said, sexual assault on a college campus is definitely something to be feared if you are a woman…

Something that I want to encourage today is reporting incidents and speaking up for survivors. Studies show 90% the perpetrators are repeat offenders. When an incident is not reported the perpetrator gets a chance to hurt someone else. By reporting to authorities, you are decreasing the chances of someone else being assaulted. After looking at the statistics, I wondered how we can stop sexual assault on campuses because students deserve a safe learning environment. Like I said colleges don't give this issue as much attention as it needs. An optional orientation won't stop sexual violence but something that can help is compulsory sex and relationships education. If it is made a requirement, more students will be actually educated. Students need to find out what consent and coercion really mean in order to understand the intensity of this issue. Most students experience some sort of sexual harassment on campus. In 2014, 55 colleges and universities were being investigated for mishandling complaints from victims. Hold your administration…

Statistics show that every one hundred seven seconds an American is sexually assaulted. Consequently, 68% of those cases are never reported to the police (“Statistics”). Sexual assault (rape) is an even larger problem at college campuses throughout the United States. Many college women (and some men) are taken advantage of when they’re intoxicated and/or on drugs. After this crime is committed, women are made to feel ashamed of themselves. They fall victim to derogatory terms and become ridiculed by their peers, rather than being viewed as a victim. Central Ohio Technical College is no exception to this statistic, though the incidents in the past several years have been very low (“Newark Campus Report”). This document proposes that the number…

One is to educate students, faculty and staff about sexual violence. Two is to prevent sexual assaults involving members of the campus community. The third and final goal is to provide an appropriate response when sexual assaults occur. These goals can be achieved when colleges implement effective policies, protocols, service delivery systems, security measures and educational activities…

This statistic, one in five, is a statistic that students at college campuses have heard over and over. The idea that a man is raped by another man or a woman is treated as nothing more than a joke within society because of the concept of toxic masculinity and the idea that only women can be raped. Coupled with that is also the idea that a woman cannot commit acts of rape simply because in most states rape is specified as a forcible insertion of a sexual organ. These facts are prevalent because they speak to how the country as a whole treats its citizens based on gender and how modern society believes that one gender is stronger or weaker in nature in comparison to the…
