Racism In The Workplace

Everyman stated, “Pay attention to anyone who minimizes others concern work, sabotage another employee’s work or deliberately withholds crucial information from other employee’s”. They’re at high risk of being judged by the race of their skin and by that chance happening have to them beware of other people actions. The workplace could be a difficult place to be in when they are not comfortable with their peers around them. Most of the time it is not just their peers, it could also be their boss, their friends, or even themselves. There were a story about a man who was the boss of his own company but he hated African Americans. Racism is when people that are only with your own race or belief will only follow their own group but also they are going to show discrimination towards others because they are different from themselves. The basic idea shows a lot of racism, but maybe it’s more about how people should see themselves mixed in with other people such as a diverse group in the workplace. People may not be as comfortable with other people because they’re not used to a diverse workplace. “More than 35% of African -Americans and Hispanics, as well as 45% of Asians, say they ‘need to compromise their authenticity’ to conform to their company’s standards of demeanor or style”(Hewlett). Majority of people of their own race goes to school with the same race as themselves, it’s mainly because people have to meet with their knowledge skills that their parents have met or just to keep the history going. Usually people have grown up with their being around that one color of their family, so the more it keeps going, the more they are going to create a new mind set about how they live, eat, sleep, breathe, almost everything they do because they will look up to the people they know first before they look up to a person that looks completely different then them. Most African Americans grew up going to public schools and being raised with a lot of other siblings. “Many black students attend both mostly nonwhite and majority poor public schools”(Jordan). That have made them who they are today because you can’t grow up being your own person just because you decided to change yourself, they have to be a certain person to become a different person. Most African Americans grew up liking all people for who they are, not because they looked at their skin and realized they are way different than them.
