Media Influence On Racism Today

What is racism? Racism is the belief that one race is better than the others. For instance, John Rocker, a retired American Major League Baseball relief pitcher once said, “The media loves nothing more than when there is a racial scandal or something. Racism, bigotry these are just such hot button issues and the media loves it.” In other words, John What Rocker meant by this is that today’s media tend to write articles that deal with a white policeman shooting a black unharmed man because of a crime but the media makes it look as if it was an act of racism. Many people say that the media are doing this just to get money from the articles, but the main reason why the media does this is to show that they want to help stop racism from occurring around the world. To further clarify, racism was found in many of today’s media, but the press decided to include it in most of its articles. In fact, back then people hardly found articles about racism they would be about fashion tips or about what was going on in the world. For example, in one of today’s bestselling magazines cover it showed “Southern chef Paula Deen promising a story about how she 's "rebuilding her world"… On the bottom left of the cover, there is the infamous mug shot of George Stinney, the Southern black child who was tried, convicted and executed in South Carolina in a murder trial ” (Markus). This proves that the media somehow provokes racism from happening because of how it looks deeply into a magazine cover although no one today will overlook what they read. Others might argue that racism is not a problem that today that is caused by the press. On the contrary many articles prove that racism still lives today and is caused by the press because they tend to include it in many of their articles because they want to show that is a problem that has being going on for a long
