RTI is a multitiered framework for students in general education that offers supportive services at each level. Students are provided with Tier 1, Tier 2, or Tier 3 services, depending on their individual responsiveness to the supports from previous levels. RTI can be seen as a “road map” for students to follow, so struggling students can find success in school, no matter how far behind they may be. The RTI model allows for early identification of at-risk students and early interventions to keep them on track. Another important factor of the RTI model is that it is research based and data driven. (Interventions, pg. 47-48)
