The Importance Of Pursuing A Career In High School

Improved Essays
Throughout my high school tenure I’ve been contemplating about what I want to do for the rest of my life. It wasn’t until this past summer that I came to the conclusion that I want to pursue a career as an athletic coach.
Currently, I’m a member of the Powerlifting team in Hutto where I’m a 3 year regional qualifier (2 year runner-up) and state qualifier. Powerlifting has done nothing but push me and make me chase my goals even harder. From the ridiculous amount of weight I put on my back day in and day out, to the countless times of almost passing out in order to make weight. This sport has made me a stronger individual mentally and physically.
In addition, to extracurricular activities I’m employed by the YMCA as a youth sports official.

At some point in time in their development, most people encounter an adult figure, who instills a positive change in their lives. For me, that person was Cindy Scannella--my track and my cross country coach for my first two years of high school. This passion of mine as well as her continual support has carried me through the difficulties of my grandfather’s death, my parents’ divorce, and other strenuous circumstances including the end of her time as my coach. Her presence in my life has truly altered my life for the better.…

“Athletics is such a beneficial way to teach so many important lessons,” she said. “Wins are great — and they’re what we practice and prepare for — but the day-today grind of intercollegiate athletics really teaches people how to cope with the real world when they graduate. In the last couple of years, I have been weightlifting in the gym. I initially took it up to gain strength and a leaner physique at the behest of my boyfriend, but partial credit is owed to my mom, who always inspired me to do what I want and be strong. It 's about personal goals and being my personal best--not just physically but in all aspects of my life. Though traditionally weightlifting was solely for men, recently more and more women are getting into it.…

Although I am not actively playing a sport at this current time, I helped coach a high school soccer team this fall and am currently an All-Star basketball coach for a seventh grade team. Initially, my love for coaching began while I volunteered as an All-Star baseball coach for three years with my father and brother for the local Cal Ripken league. As a result of these experiences that I have had as a player and coach, one of my goals is to become a coach at the high school or college level. In addition to that, I have also thought of becoming a physical education teacher because it is a position that would allow me to stay active and teach children the healthy benefits of staying active.…
