However, there were certain things we covered that just seemed to stick in my noggin like glue and made the class periods fly by! For starters, I adored when we learned about relationships. Though I try not to analyze things too much, I do really enjoy having an understanding about how people respond to things and why some people stay together and some don’t. So since I have only ever had one boyfriend and we are still together, I thought a little friendly analysis wouldn’t hurt. A second concept that I enjoyed a lot was child and family psych. I love kids, and another reason why I love psychology is because I love to understand people more, so I can respond with understanding …show more content…
Time is such a huge thing in college, at least for me. So knowing tips on how to manage time, and how to get the most out of time was very helpful! Things like how to study, and if I spend an hour studying with music playing I probably wont get as much out of that hour than if I was in a quiet place spending quality time studying. Though all of these were very useful, next to study habits, I found goal-setting to be the second most useful and something I have already seen make a difference in my college life. Knowing how we respond to goals, and how making goals that are smart and achievable make a huge difference in what I can accomplish. Whether it’s homework, going to the gym, changing a bad habit or making sure I have time set aside to read my bible, I can see first hand what making goals for myself has done to aid my productivity, and my confidence and stress level in

The process of taking bits of information and synthesizing them into an integrated whole captivates me. In college I explored the connectedness between subjects in my studies of psychology, biology, and chemistry. I found it fascinating that all of these topics were interconnected and that one could directly affect another. For example, a genetic mutation in the genome can lead to an underdeveloped organ, which may result in lower hormone production and lead to a psychological disorder. Likewise, environmental factors can influence gene expression, leading to the up- or down-regulation of hormones which in turn affect mood and psychopathology.…

Psychoanalytic perspective is defined “[p]ersonality development is driven by unconscious forces that are later tamed by the conscious”, and Sigmund Freud was the first to introduce the psychoanalytic perspective(Friedman,2012). He created a set of psychological and psychotherapeutic theories that are used now by many other organizations to treat patients. The treatment focuses on exact theories that deal with relationships between conscious and unconscious mental processes. Though the basis of the psychodynamic perspective is to understand and interpret what’s going on in individual minds, and unconscious part of the mind. Human behavior is complex, diverse, dynamic, and even though I have been a witness to a wide range of erratic behavior (mine included), it still can surprise me. People’s behavior is enigmatic at times and many therapists have developed theories to illuminate them. A variety of things can influence people’s behavior, but how these influences can be explained depends on context and the theoretical approach the counselor takes. As a future change agent, I believe it is important to have a grasp on the different theories available today and their techniques.…

My understanding of the biopsychosocial approach to psychology helps me analyze texts in English and moral situations in ethics. It was my favorite class and it felt like I was learning something that I actually cared about. I find learning about human behavior extremely thought provoking. I’m fascinated with forensics because my childhood was filled with shows like NCSI and Criminal Minds. While those shows illustrate false perceptions of the field they still provoked my interest. The two fields being merged together is best for me because I would like to assess the mental health of individuals who have been involved with crimes.…

I have never experienced therapy, but always had imagined how the process would be. I pictured a couch and a therapist on a fancy chair like in the movies, and I would just lay there and vent about my problems. Initially, I was very excited to see someone whom I can speak with and possibly help me resolve my issues, but that excitement did not last long. Anxiety kicked in as I got a phone call from the therapist, informing me that we would start next week. I started to become very nervous about the whole client-therapist relationship, for what if I did not connect with.…
