Improved Essays
In this paper two topics from the Psychology and Spirituality course will be discussed in regards to spirituality and their influence on my personal life. I will examine how I have grown and what I have learned from the week on Spring Lake ranch and how I wish to continue moving forward in my attempt to be spiritual and build a closer relationship to God. Love and death have played large roles in my life, especially of late and through the course I have been able to better understand my views on the topics and which areas of those views may need re-mapping to expand my world.

The thought rushed in my head out of nowhere and I sat in the chair afraid to make the slightest of movements. I was petrified with fear. I was afraid for two reasons; one being the lost of life and the subtopic under that as described by Charles Macknee in his paper. The second being my doubt in God and the existence of an eternity with him. Fear related to the loss of life is the first thing that left me the chair for the longest amount of time. Loss of mastery, in much of my life mastery is what hold me together. Knowing that I have control of most of my life makes be better able to face life, but that also make me a neurotic, which then creates large amounts of stress that I can’t mange. To not be able to plan my next steps after death and know where I’m going gave me a lot of anxiety, and to give up my choices to the will of other forces left my head spinning in endless circles. Fear of incompleteness or failure was a sizable part of this time of paralyzed fear I had. Fears of never having been in love, having children, married, successful career, fully accepting myself, telling more people about Jesus Christ, and achieving all my goals and dreams in life. This was the fear of never having lived. To be so close to it but then having it taken away before I could achieve it all. Lost of mastery and fear of …show more content…
To know that love is something of my own will and not based off feelings that are felting and conditional to situations, and death is out of my control but the fear reflects how I’m living my life. These topics have brought me to a fork in the road, do I continue down my current path of fear or choose the one with knowledge and commit to exploring that knowledge and allow myself to grow and continue learning and to keep changing my map and discovering more of who I am and how I really wan tot live my

Throughout life people fear, whether it’s something ridiculous like bugs or something immense like death. But what if what is actually feared by people is what needs love the most? According to a quote from Rainer Maria Rilke, “Perhaps everything that frightens us is, in its deepest essence, something helpless that needs our love.” , normal everyday fears and life's more inevitable fears are just the things that need love the most. Similarly, Grant Wiggins in the novel A Lesson Before Dying and Tita de la Garza in the novel Like Water for Chocolate both fear something that enables them whether they realize it or not.…

Love is not something that should only be expressed by words but also by actions. Most people greatly fear falling in love, never knowing whether you’ll end up happy or hurt, In which this case I always had the fear about getting hurt. The song “Criminal” by Ozuna gave me the complete opposite feeling. To me it has a lot of meaning because it reminds me that if someone truly loves, they will do whatever it takes to be with you. Meeting someone is just like listening to a song, knowing that it would always be your favorite.…

You don’t fall into love, rather love finds you.…

Love is defined as a feeling of attachment, or affection towards someone or something. Although this Germanic word may have its own meaning, to me it means something a little different. For example love is the way my father used to lay in the middle of mine and my sisters room holding both our hands till we fell asleep, reason being that we had nightmares. Love is late night chocolate and ranting sessions my mother and I have over a boy, life, and just to get it all out. It’s the taste of chocolate pudding my little brother makes when people aren’t feeling well, and due to him saying “that’s all I know how to make”.…

Mumber and Reed (2012) suggest that there is a difference between religion and spirituality, and I believe this to be true. Where religion seeks to create conformists to a belief system, spirituality is the connection one has been themselves and a higher power. To me, this step also represented another opportunity to reflect on who I am and how I have treated others during my life’s journey. I know there is a direct connection between spirituality and mediation and it is through the isolation process that leaves the world and its issues on the outside, I have always been close to god and the universe. Furthermore, I realize that spirituality also has nothing to do with God at all but empowering the inner self to maintain a level of peace.…
