Teachers have a code of conduct in which they must uphold to remain professional within the classroom and run an effective classroom. Being professional in the classroom entails having morals which entails respect, responsibility, and are proficient in their craft (Charles &Barrs, 2014)). Professionalism also entails the overall appearance of the teacher. A teacher must dress appropriately because in order to be taken seriously, a professional must dress conservatively to show they are serious about their job and to express authority (Charles & Barr, 2014). . Concerning students, professional communication is strength. Listening to students and giving them insight on various situations, especially young students can come naturally to empathetic teachers. In regards to the parents, initiating communication is ones forte, especially with the use of technology. As a teacher, it is important to be able to hold a conversation and successfully and accurately transmit information to the parents in order for them to know what is happening inside the classroom and how to benefit their student. When considering co-workers, the strength one has is keep vulgarities out of a conversation in order to communicate with colleagues. By keeping obscenities out of normal conversations outside of school, it makes it easier to keep them out of work exchanges such as one is capable of doing. Finally, an asset in regards to administrators is quickly following the directions of these people higher in the educational world. By following directions quickly, more is done and professionally, a teacher is shown as having good work ethic. An area in which there could be some improvement is the organization factor of professionalism. Clutter and papers everywhere is not the best means of retaining a professional image with any of the groups because it sends the message that the teacher is unable to work efficiently due to the clutter on their desk or in their classroom.
