My Reflection On My Writing Course

As I reflect back on this course it is obvious that I am now a more professional writer, I can write and read better literature, I have been a more critical thinking, and I have grown substantially in English.
I am now able to write more professionally because of this course because I learned how to write a resume and cover letter. I never knew how to write a resume and this course gave me a detailed explanation on how to do so. The cover letter gave the resume an explanation point because of how professional it was. After I did the resume and cover letter I took much pride in it and I decided to take it to show my older brother Mark. Mark works for a prestigious company called Lockheed Martin and I remember a few years ago when he was trying

The different essays on elements of literature give me a better understanding on how to identify the theme, tone, purpose, etc. Before this course I had a difficult time trying to understand poetry. Even when I took the PERT the only reason that I passed was because of all the other reading questions that where on the test. I often had a difficult time to understand what the author was trying to say. However, I overcame that obstacle when I did essay 2 and read the poem “That time of year thou mayst in me behold” by William Shakespeare. This poem was difficult for me but I knew I had to stick with it in order to do well on the essay. Due to the fact that I had a difficult time I would go to tutoring for help and eventually start to understand the elements of literature that Shakespeare was starting to express to the reader. Additionally, when I had to write my own poem on Discussion 2 it than helped me because I now knew how to add the elements of literature to my poem and when I added the elements of literature to my poem it helped me because I could now relate to different poems that I did not write. Also the discussion post has helped me because others could give me feedback on my …show more content…
I feel that English is the building block to all work and coursework. For example, in all the college classes that I have been in I have had to write some sort of writing whether it be an essay or a discussion post. In the future I hope to become a criminal investigator and I have to be able to write witness reports for the people that I interview. While I was doing the quizzes, I learned a lot about different writing mistakes that I made. I am hoping to be able to review my mistakes in order to become a better writer and I will not make those mistakes during my professional career. Additionally, like I stated earlier being able to write a resume has really helped me because that is the first step to getting a job. I defiantly feel that all this information will help me in the

Having to apply what I learned from each essay has really helped me a lot. By learning to use MLA style to have a better look throughout my essays, and fixing unnecessary semicolon and using commas when needed to avoid run on sentences or fragments, as well as eliminating to-be verbs for shorter more detailed sentence, and how to use work or words that aren't mine correctly to avoid plagiarism. From learning all those things, it has totally changed my way of writing because the way I used to go about my written, is not even close to how ENGL 101 changed me to being a better writer than I was before.…

This course has improved myself as a writer and has a critical thinker; with the essays that were written I was challenged to ask more questions and see the bigger picture on things and view a subject from all sides. I never wrote an argumentative essay before this course, so this course taught me what it was how to write one and what exactly I was looking for and what I would be able to improve on. I know there is still room for improvement, but taking this course has already made me a better writer from when I started. Writing argumentative essays would help improve many skills as an individual by learning how to approach important issues without taking a side and learning this would also help if a person was trying to prove a point…

I was also relieved to discover that the class was very small and the teacher was not scary at all, unlike my prior belief.…

At the beginning of the semester, I viewed myself as a creative writer. After attending this class I realized that there is a lot more that goes into writing an essay, or a research paper, than just creativity alone. I have learned that it is very important to be aware of my strengths and weaknesses in my writing. Taking this class has helped me understand the strengths and weaknesses in my writing skills, and it has given me the opportunity to strengthen the areas in which I was weak. An example of this is that I have become aware of my grammar and spelling errors as the semester progressed.…

Throughout this course, writing took more than just writing about what you read. Here I learned to process all the information that needs to be processed and come up with some way to get it out on paper. With writing I have learned that vocabulary and grammar are two very affective sides to it. With grammar I have learned when to end a sentence. Working on grammar for my writing also allowed me to learn, when the time came for me to use punctuation and extend the sentence.…

Writing has always been a struggle for me for as long as I can remember. I find it difficult to put my thoughts on a paper, especially if I have to do it in another language. Some people think that as long as they can speak a language or communicate with other people, it is enough. However, these people are totally wrong. People do not only need to speak a language fluently, but they also have to be able to write it.…
