How To Procrastinate As A Student

Throughout my years as a student, I have dealt with multiple challenges with assignments. From these assignments I developed a negative attitude where I would doubt my capability as a student and as an individual, creating a barrier between getting the work done versus not at all. I’m capable of doing my work but, fearing to make a mistake is stronger than, my actions to at least make a solid effort in order to complete it. Although, there are many issues with myself, I still wanted to succeed. Yet, I didn’t know how. That fear of making a mistake held me back from my goal to succeed. I always told myself, “You're different and your mistakes will catch up to you at the end. So why bother making the commitment when you're just going to mess up.” This may sound harsh, but this was what I was slowly starting to believe. I wanted a change.
The initial starter of my problems was procrastination. It became a habit and prevented me from completing my work on time. Procrastination has always been with me, but it has never affected my life as much as when applying for scholarships for college. What led to procrastination would be my negative self-talk. “Why put the time in doing it when I’m not going to get it in the first place,” “Have no time now for it, I’ll do it later.” This led me to the use of procrastination because

I had the support of my family, friends, and teachers when applying for financial aid; they helped me turn it in before the due date. From the motivation of my peers, I told myself “This is not so bad. It was actually easy.” Another thing that helped me steer clear of procrastination was rewarding myself every time I sat down to complete it. I became aware of this, after reading, “Your Attitude: The Heart of The Matter,” by Langan.
