We live in a legal society. It means that if we are criminal that hurt others’ bodies and harm the stability and peace of our society, we must face the punishment of law; seriously, we must be incarcerated in the jail, under the requirement of law. We respect the law, and it really protects most of our legal privileges and punishes whom harms our society. Many prisoners are incarcerated, punished in jail under our prison system, which makes them realize their fault and reflect deeply. It seems that our prison system can really protect the stability of our society outside the jail; however, as a matter of fact, sometimes it ignores most of the prisoners’ feelings inside the jail. First, the sexual violence is the most serious problem in our prison system. It is also a serious issue in our society, and our country makes legislation to protect our privileges outside the jail. On the contrary, many prisoners suffer sexual violence in the jail, without enough protection. In the book Locked Down, Locked Out, the author mentions that lots of prisoners suffer sexual violence under our prison system; in many times, they have no idea to stop it. From the book, we find that the sexual violence of prison guard is routine to happen in jail, and it is always infused with racism, sexism, heterosexism, ableism and transphobia. There are several prisoners that suffer the sexual violence mentioned in the book. For example, Jake Donaghy is transgender and he writes to the author about the ways that prison guards manipulate bodies into deeper isolation. He suffers the both of psychological and physical violence by the prison guards.
