The Importance Of Pretty Little Liars

When you put so much time into a T.V. show you find it hard to stop following along with every episode and every bit of news that relates to it. As the years go by and as new seasons begin, you start to see that you have not only grown up with the show, but you have made the show a part of your life. Judging from my own experiences, I was never too big on spending hours watching made up shows in front of a T.V, that is until I heard of a very talked about new television show that seemed so intriguing and suspenseful for young girls my age. Having four young, pretty high school teenagers as the main characters was already so interesting to me, but having the girls be taunted by a mysterious lunatic made the show twenty times better for me. …show more content…
With a new twist here and there, I have not only been entertained but I have been able to almost put myself into the shoes of the four main characters. Spending so much time watching them on T.V. I have been able to think in a way that the girls would and have been able to understand why some of them make the choices that they do make in certain situations. With time my knowledge for understanding and taking into account certain things has expanded thanks to Pretty Little Liars. When I was made aware of the paper that we would need to write for my Writing 102 class, I immediately thought of PLL. No other show has grasped my attention, given me semi heart attacks and kept me cryin at the end of each season like this one has, I know that if I write my paper on Pretty Little Liars I will successfully continue to have something to talk about without worrying about not knowing any detail. Not only will I incorporate my love and knowledge for the show, but I will continue to speak about the success that the show itself has had throughout the years in comparison to other television shows and in comparison to the book series. Overall I feel as though Pretty Little Liars is the best choice for me because it is a television show that I regularly follow and its fan base continues to grow even six

“Hamilton” the Broadway hip hop musical sensation has its lead role played by a Puerto Rican actor who read a biography of the man and knew he had to write a play about him. Lin-Manuel Miranda’s musical has become a cultural touchstone in just over a year, and has transformed the notion of what a Broadway show should be. The fact that an actor of Latino descent plays Alexander Hamilton hasn’t changed, even though Miranda recently left the show, he’s been replaced by Javier Muñoz. In television, ten years ago, ABC adapted a telenovela as a “dramedy”, called “Ugly Betty”, which became a hit that ran for four seasons.…

Jack R. Poppele once said,“Television’s future is as expansive as the human mind can comprehend.” This is true considering the enormous advances that have been made in the television industry, since Philo Farnsworth first demonstrated it to the public in 1927. In 1945 it was estimated that there were less than 10,000 television sets in American households, which later rose to 52 million sets in 1960. Nowadays 96.7 percent of Americans have a television in their household, and the average American watches 5 hours of TV a day. Television has swiftly changed American culture in extreme ways, along with impacting the views of politics, education, and entertainment.…

The critically acclaimed show Freaks and Geeks is a shining example of a TV show that ended far too early. Freaks and Geeks was a show that captured the awkwardness of adolescence, as opposed to the romanticized and nostalgic view typically portrayed on TV. Shortly after Freaks and Geeks ended, a spiritual successor arose in the form of the show Undeclared, created by Judd Apatow, a producer of Freaks and Geeks. Where Freaks and Geeks was more drama than comedy, Undeclared was a lighthearted show that explored the college experience. Although Undeclared presents plots typical to the college experience, due to the lighthearted tone of the show, aspects of typical college life are presented too simplistically.…

Most people have heard of Pretty Little Liars before, and if not, a brief summary of the book is a girl disappears and then her friends start getting text messages from somebody named A, that threatens to tell all of their secrets basically. But a book that people probably don’t recognize as much is Ali’s Pretty Little Lies, is the prequel to Pretty Little Liars. It’s about what happened before Alison Dilaurentis(girl who disappears) was murdered in the first PLL book. Ali’s Pretty Little Lies was written by Sara Shepard, who also wrote The Lying game series. This book is realistic fiction, because it could happen in real life but it’s still made up.…

By Kierkegaard’s standards, the lack of loving your neighbor as yourself may be the root of the problem of dehumanization. In Charles Kinnane’s The Human Experience, the audience is introduced to a homeless woman living on the streets. She tells the story of a time when, while living on the streets with four dogs, people felt the need to give the animals a place to stay so they wouldn’t freeze on the streets. The people stood around and made sure that the dogs had a home to go to, but paid no attention to their fellow human being. They left her and took the dogs.…

Dawson’s Creek is an American television series that first began in 1998, created by Kevin Williamson who loosely based the show off of different aspect of his own life. The show follows Dawson, the main character, who is an aspiring film maker, his close friends Joey, Pacey and Jen, as well as the additional friends that come and go along the way. It depicts the four friends, living in a small coastal town, as they help each other cope with the struggles of both adolescence and growing up. The group endures a series of struggles that comes with life, as they mature and develop. They undergo the changes that accompany the growing hormones of puberty, as well as the confusion of feelings that come with these changes: they no longer see each other as just merely friends, but finally as members of the opposite sex.…

Not only is the steady decline obvious in kid shows, but reality shows have their own faults. I’ve noticed the rise of reality television and also the many forms in comes in. There is, however, one common theme among reality television and that is dramatization. Once viewers experienced the outrageous drama found in reality television, it only leaves them wanting more. Today, almost all reality shows are popular and highly advertised.…

Among these were Friday Night Lights, running from 2006-2011, almost identical to Gossip Girl’s runtime; 90210, airing from 2008-2013, again very similar run-time; and The OC with the different run-time of 2003-2007, but the target audience was and still is very similar. To begin, most of these shows implemented one or multiple factors from Gossip Girl. I address the runtime for context, though it is not different now currently accessing the show on Netflix, because all of these compared shows are in the related or recommended suggestions along with Gossip Girl on Netflix and online. The reboot of 90210 which began airing the year after Gossip Girl started, has the most similarities to the show because of the idea of social class and comparing the “popular” kids, to the not-so-popular. There’s many fake friendships and self-serving tendencies occurring in both shows, which is extremely reflective of the society in which the characters live in.…

Gender roles in the media influence society greatly. Media has the ability to portray genders in ways that they really do not act in real life and American society. Even with reality shows, individuals in the shows put on an act in a way to persuade the audience’s mind to keep them watching. For this assignment I chose to watch two different shows that were on ABC Family. I was quick to learn that the “family channel” is not so much for the family.…
