The Importance of Presentation Essentials

Before I started this class I honestly did not think I would learn anything from it, but I was wrong. I was able to learn about the importance of presentation skills, I gained more knowledge within myself, and I learned how to present myself to others. Those are three great qualities to learn before becoming a businesswoman. I have learned it is really important to know how to give a good presentation because this skill will benefit me greatly in my future classes. One of the interesting lessons I learned was, “When writing an outline for a presentation there are four main objectives when writing an effective introduction: gain attention, you must reveal a topic, establish credibility, and preview

I will do whatever it takes to graduate from school and become a successful business woman. While I have been in this class I have learned my strengths and weaknesses when giving presentations, like one of my strengths is doing research and formatting information together to get the job done and my weakness is getting stressed out and nervous before giving a presentation. For example, I was so worried that I wasn’t going to give a good presentation that I had a migraine for two days. I also realized that I am good at giving an elevator speech. When I think about giving an elevator speech, it’s like rushing to give my babysitter instructions as I am walking out the door to get to …show more content…

An internship is normally a work task a student completes after a series of classes to gain a degree in a particular field they think they’ll love, whether they still love it after they’ve completed that journey is based upon a multitude of criteria. Luckily, I have found that I quite enjoy fashion and working in retail throughout this internship at Dress Barn. Occasionally students find that what they thought they were getting into, is actually completely different than what they expected. Especially when reading about a profession on paper versus seeing it up closer in real life. When I started college, I wasn’t sure what I wanted to study or achieve with my life.…

Management 101, consisted of many stimulating and informative topics. However, learning the contrast of the X and Y management theories was exceedingly practical and most enjoyable in comparison to all the other topics discussed. This class thoroughly taught me the different perspectives and benefits of each theory and that they are undoubtedly are essential in building a strong and effective foundation in management. It will not only be a challenge, but an enjoyable task taking on the personal challenge of merging the benefits of both theories. For example, not only rewarding good performances, but also motivating employees to work on their own and empowering them to make independent decisions that they can be proud to be a part of.…

You are in class one day when the teacher announces a new assignment: students are to research and give an informative speech about any topic of their choosing. As the student, imagine that you are terrified to not only present the speech in front of your entire class, but to have to go through the process of picking a topic, researching it, organizing your speech, and practicing it as well. At the beginning of my communication class, this was how I felt about producing and giving speeches. I was nervous to talk in front of the class because I have always been very shy and have suffered from extreme speech apprehension. I also dreaded picking a topic and organizing my speeches as well, since I could never make up my mind and I was never good…

Goal I The first goal of the program was to “Apply major concepts, theoretical perspectives, empirical findings, and historical trends in psychology to prepare for graduate study or careers in which psychological training is relevant”(). Two classes met this goal, Introduction to Psychology (PSY 111) taken at Anne Arundel Community College, and Introduction to Counseling Psychology (PSYC 432) taken at the University of Maryland University College. Introduction to Psychology was the first psychology course I took many years ago. It was the class I took because I had an empty slot on my schedule.…

Although I feel that I did an adequate job on the group project one of the most important skills that I desperately need to improve on is learning to present in front of an audience. We had two assignments this semester that revolved around speaking in front of our class, the first being a speech by ourselves and the second being the group presentation. I am a cheerleader, so being in front of crowds does not bother me but what makes me the most nervous is when I have to speak in front of others by reading something I have written or completed. In the group presentation I was not as nervous since I was not alone in speaking to the class, but on the speech I did I was overcome with anxiety. Being able to talk in front of others is my biggest setback, but I am certain that with enough practice, patience, and preparation I will be able to calmly give a speech over any subject that I am required to do.…

I strongly dislike public speaking, but I am working to improve my skills in that area because I know how much it’s needed in the workplace. There were many of my classmates who are graduating at the same time as me and it seems like we all have a lot to improve. We need more practice and more willing to put what we have learned in the past into practice. I know that during our college careers, we have heard from different people about what we should do when we are giving a presentation, but it looks like we did not take it seriously and now we are facing the consequences of giving a presentation like a high school student and not as an almost professional…

When I first began this class I thought that this would be just another introductory class that is required to orient you to the expectations of the particular college. Now, after completing this class, I know that this is not the case. Personal Dimensions of Learning has been a great help, not only to my school work, but also in my daily life. Before taking this class, I thought that learning, and completing daily tasks, were mostly memorizing the order of the way things are supposed to be done and just completing the task. I never liked this strategy, but it always seemed to be the most convenient way to get things done at school, home, and work.…

Lastly, I think that I will be able to get up in front of people and give a speech without getting extremely nervous. I haven’t had much experience with speaking in front of big groups but hopefully by the end of this semester I will be very good at it without having any nervous feelings if someone asked me to give a public…
